What does an Emission Inspection consist of?
If your vehicle is a 1982-1995 model, then you are required to do a TSI Emission Inspection.
If your vehicle is a 1996 or newer model, then you are required to do an OBDII Emission Inspection.
If you have a Diesel engine then you are not affected by emissions testing.
What is a TSI Inspection?
A TSI Inspection is a Two Speed Idle Test where a probe is attached to the exhaust pipe to determine the kind and amount of gasses your vehicle is releasing into the environment.
What is an OBDII Inspection?
An OBDII Inspection involves attaching the emssions tester to your vehicle's onboard computer. The status (ON/OFF) of the vehicle's check engine light is critical. If your check engine light stays on your vehicle will not pass the inspection.
Can I simply disconnect the battery to turn the check engine light off?
NO! If you disconnect the battery it will reset your computer, and will set numberous sensors to NOT READY STATUS. This will also cause your vehicle to fail Inspection.
How can I turn off the check engine light in order to pass the Inspection?
You will have to take your vehicle to a technician to read the codes stored in the computer. He/She can then advise you as how to fix the problem that is causing your check engine light to come on. Once the repairs are made, the codes can be cleared and will set your vehicle's on board computer and the monitors back to READY STATUS.
